46.621 Menschen aus St. Pölten können ihre Stimmen abgeben. Es stehen sechs Parteien zur Auswahl: SPÖ, ÖVP, FPÖ, Grüne, NEOS und KPÖ. Die Ankündigung, dass ein kostenloser Test aus der Sperrung nicht möglich sein wird, hat den Wahlkampf für die Gemeinderatswahl in St. Pölten erheblich erschwert. Die ersten Stimmen können bereits jetzt abgegeben werden. Bis zur Gemeinderatswahl in St. Pölten sind es noch 19 Tage. Aufgrund der Pandemie ist die Stadt in erster Linie auf die Verwendung von Wahlkarten angewiesen. Strenge Sicherheitsvorkehrungen gelten auch an anderer Stelle. Auch die Gemeinderatswahlen in der Landeshauptstadt werden von der Coronavirus-Krise überschattet. Teile des Wahlbüros wurden in den letzten Tagen auf den Rathausplatz verlegt. Rathausbeamte geben seit Montag Wahlkarten in beheizten Behältern aus, akzeptieren aber auch bereits ausgefüllte Wahlkarten. “Eine Maßnahme gegen die Pandemie, um jede Form von Infektion zu vermeiden”, sagt Martin Koutny. Er leitet das Bürgeramt in der Gemeindeverwaltung der gesetzlichen Stadt. Einige der Wahlkartenbüros am Rathausplatz sind bis 18:00 Uhr geöffnet. an Wochentagen und auch an Samstagen. „Stimmkarten können bis zum 20. Januar schriftlich bis zum 22. Januar um 12.00 Uhr mündlich angefordert werden. Dann ist es vorbei “, sagte Koutny und bezog sich auf das Gesetz. Gerhard Hönigl war einer der ersten, der am Montagmorgen von seinem Wahlrecht Gebrauch machte. “Eigentlich war ich nur zufällig hier”, sagte der St. Pöltener bei einer örtlichen Inspektion von noe.ORF.at. Dann wurde mir klar, dass es bereits geöffnet war, und ich dachte mir: Das ist praktisch, dann muss ich am Sonntag nicht mehr abstimmen. Und gerade in Zeiten wie diesen ist es wichtig zu wählen. Für die Umfragen am 24. Januar gelten dann strenge Sicherheitsvorkehrungen. Vorbild waren die Gemeinderatswahlen in Wien. „Wir haben einen intensiven Austausch mit unseren Kollegen in Wien. Wir bekommen auch die Plexiglasscheiben für unsere Wahllokale aus Wien “, sagte der Leiter des Bürgerdienstes. Die Wähler erhalten ihren eigenen „Wahlstift“ und es wird genügend Platz in den Wahllokalen geben. Und damit nicht zu viele Menschen zur gleichen Zeit am gleichen Ort sind, wird es eine Verwaltung geben. “Und natürlich wird es genügend Desinfektionsmittel geben, und wir haben auch Hausregeln erlassen, die vorsehen, dass jeder Mund- und Nasenschutz trägt”, fasste Koutny das Maßnahmenpaket zusammen. Es wird keine Hausbesuche oder Wahlkämpfe auf der Straße geben. Stattdessen wenden sich die Parteien sozialen Netzwerken und Direktwerbung zu. Last but not least könnte das klassische Wahlkampfplakat wieder eine neue Bedeutung bekommen.

There will be no house calls or election campaigns on the street. Instead, the parties are turning to social networks and direct mail.
